The reverse is an image now famous of the sugar maple leaf, the national emblem of Canada and a great homage to the great north. Indeed, the maple leaf is resilient, can be found throughout the country and has a diverse range of species.The design created by Walter Ott, is spectacular and the attention to details amazing: the leave’s texture,its unique shape, and its veins are truly remarkable. On this side can be found the metal type, the weight and purity (FINE SILVER/ARGENT PUR written in the two official languages of Canada, English and French). This side has been enhanced by an additional security feature: each 1 oz coin contains a unique privy mark with a micro-engraving of the year it was released, which is only visible under magnifying glass. This anti-counterfeiting technology is exclusive to the Royal Canadian Mint.

The obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt and it will be the last time Elizabeth II features on the Canadian coin. The Queen passed away in September 2022 and the Royal Canadian Mint will eventually release coins with the effigy of her successor, King Charles III. The portrait by Susanna Blunt shows a more relaxed and approachable Queen, age 79. Simplicity makes this one stand out from the rest of the portrait on the Maple Leaf series. Like her father, King George VI, The Queen chose to be portrayed without a crown, instead wearing a simple string of pearls and pearl stud earrings.
